Profile

Rink A. Babka is an internationally known athlete, Olympian, entrepreneur and artist. He is presently the CEO of Babka Ltd. The company is a fee-based firm specializing in assisting private organizations in resolving financial and managerial issues. He also assists non-profits in fundraising and provides public awareness campaigns.


He was born Richard Aldrich Babka in Cheyenne, Wyoming of Czechoslovakian parents from the region of Bohemia, now the Czech Republic. His family moved from Wyoming to Palo Alto, California when he was twelve years old. He graduated from Palo Alto High school and attended Menlo College where he received an athletic scholarship his freshman year. He received a football/track and field scholarship to the University of Southern California (USC) where he graduated with a BS Degree from the School of Business with masters studies from the now Marshall Graduate School of Business.

Rink started his professional career with the electronics division of Deutsch Company in Los Angeles. His success as a salesman promoted him into the field of corporate computers. He advanced in corporate management, sales and marketing in the computer hardware business with Fortune 500 companies including Control Data Corporation, ITT Date Services Corporation, and University Computing Corporation. These first ten years of exposure and experiences prepared him to start his own company and his role as an entrepreneur. After a decade of corporate management responsibilities, he took a big step and started his own company, Systems Data Network Corporation which was a computer service company.

For the next three decades, Rink formed and purchased companies including a Coors Beer distributorship, liquor/wine distributorships – the second largest in the state of California (geographically with 16 counties);  a long-haul trucking company, equipment leasing, steel fabrication, a public relations agency; an oxygen transmission equipment manufacturer; and a nutrition/supplement company, to name a few.

With his background in sport and business achievements, he became very active in community affairs. Most efforts went into youth athletic groups for both boys and girls. He spent approximately 20 years with Parks and Recreation as Director and Chairman both at the city and state levels; Board involvements with Chamber of Commerce; YMCA; Boy Scouts, Boy/Girls Club, Visitors Bureau, and community college and university promotions.

On a state level, he has been active with Parks and Recreation; State Athletic Commission and was Director of the “Fair board Commission”, Agriculture Association 2nd District, appointed by the Governor of California.

Nationally, he sat on four American President’s committees on physical fitness and Olympic sports for Presidents Kennedy, Nixon, Ford and Reagan, the Los Angeles (Mayor Yorty’s) Founders Bid Committee for the 1984 games, advisory committee for the Olympic Training Center – San Diego; and is a member of Dallas, Texas 2012 Olympic Games Bid Committee. Presently, Babka is active as one of the founding directors of the international Art of Olympians.

Outside all these environments, he remained active in family ranching. He raised quarter horses for ranch use and cutting competition, raised registered Hereford cattle for foundation stock and promoted registered bulls for sales. He presently is a partner in a cow/calf operation.

Rink is also active in motivational speaking for college and industries on the subject matter of “The Attitude” and “Salesmanship.”
As a resident in California, he is the father of three son’s all residing in Utah and one daughter living in the country of Sweden and has a total of nine grandchildren.
